Is Google Ads Age Restricted

Knowing the requirements of using Google Ads is important as a business owner, as it can give much-needed insight as to what your options are.

Google Ads users must be at least 18 years of age or older in order to make and use a Google Ads account.

In the next sections, we will discuss how Google Ads puts age restrictions on other aspects.

Can You Target Google Ads by age?

Google Ads does allow targeting by age. The available age groups are 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65+, and “Unknown”.

The “Unknown” category includes anyone who has chosen not to provide their personal information, such as age, gender, or parental status, to Google.

Are Targeted Ads Age Restricted?

Targeted ads are heavily restricted for people under the age of 18. No personalized, interest-based, or demographic targeting is allowed for those under 18.

Google also does not allow the showing of sensitive ad topics such as weight loss, prescription drugs, alcohol, and gambling to this group.

What is the Minimum Age Requirement?

The minimum age requirement for using Google Ads is 18 or older.

How to Exclude Age Groups in Google Ads

To exclude an age range:

  1. In the campaign or ad group tree view, select the campaign or ad group.
  2. Go to the Targeting > Age tab, then click on Negatives in the top corner.
  3. Click Add negative, then choose Add negative age or Add campaign negative age.
  4. Select the desired age range from the drop-down list.

To edit or remove an age exclusion:

  1. Go to the Targeting > Age tab, then click on Negatives.
  2. Select the age exclusions you want to change.
  3. To edit: modify the values directly in the list or using the edit panel.
  4. To remove: click Remove in the toolbar.

Is There a Way to Remove Age Requirements?

Google does not allow ad targeting for people under 18, but you can choose to remove all age exclusions in your campaign settings.

Using the same steps as before, exclude every age range except unknown to get broad, untargeted Google Ads.
